If you’ve been in construction long enough, you’ve probably had the thought — maybe it’s time to go out on my own. You know the work, you know the jobsite, and you know you’re good at what you do. The thing that stops most Hispanic workers isn’t skill. It’s everything else: the financing, the paperwork, the business side of things that nobody taught them.

At NHCA, we are constantly looking for partners but also actively looking for resources that Hispanic construction professionals can leverage. That’s why we wanted to make sure this program was on your radar.

JCB just launched a program called Be Your Own BossSé Tu Propio Patrón, and it was built with the Hispanic community in mind. It’s designed specifically to help Hispanic construction workers make that leap from worker to owner, from doing the job to running the business. And it goes beyond just selling equipment. The program includes bilingual training and business resources, business coaching and mentorship, financing options for ITIN holders, first-time buyer programs, connections to local JCB dealers, and guidance on how to actually grow a company.

That financing piece matters a lot. Data shows that 70% of Hispanic entrepreneurs have to rely on personal savings to start a business, and 90% of Hispanic construction firms struggle to get support from traditional banks. This program is trying to close that gap, and that’s something NHCA members know firsthand is real.

As Sergio Terreros, President of the National Hispanic Contractors Association, put it:

“Hispanics have built the homes, roads, and cities of America — it’s time we also build our own legacy.”

At NHCA we couldn’t agree more.

The Hispanic community makes up roughly one-third of the entire U.S. construction workforce. In states like Texas, California, and Florida, it’s even higher. Hispanic workers are the backbone of this industry. Programs like Sé Tu Propio Patrón are a recognition of that, and a doorway into what’s possible.

If you’ve been thinking about starting your own company, or you’re already running one and want to learn more about equipment financing and business development resources, this is worth exploring.
