NHCA - Central Valley (Fresno)
California's Central Valley, anchored by Fresno, represents one of the most critical and evolving construction markets in the state. As a region driven by agricultural infrastructure, population growth, affordable housing demand, and ongoing public and private investment, the Central Valley is experiencing steady expansion across residential development, community infrastructure, logistics, and energy-efficient building.
From workforce housing and site development to sustainability-driven construction and regional economic revitalization, Fresno and its surrounding communities are positioned as a key hub for growth. At the same time, the region presents a significant opportunity to strengthen access, training, and advancement pathways for Hispanic professionals across all levels of the construction industry.
The launch of the NHCA Central Valley Chapter reflects our commitment to supporting and elevating Hispanic construction professionals, from skilled trades and field leadership to project management, development, and entrepreneurship, ensuring they are equipped to participate, compete, and lead in this growing market.
Chapter Focus
To develop a strong, skilled, and connected construction workforce in the Central Valley by creating clear pathways from entry-level trades to project and business leadership. The chapter will focus on strengthening technical capabilities in project management, including bidding, estimating, takeoff, and contract management, while expanding access to pre-apprenticeship programs, field supervision training, and construction fundamentals.
In parallel, the chapter will support broader economic participation through initiatives in development capital, site selection, bonding capacity, and supplier diversity, ensuring Hispanic professionals and businesses are positioned to take on larger and more complex projects.
With a strong emphasis on sustainability and energy efficiency, the Central Valley Chapter will also promote forward-looking construction practices aligned with California's environmental standards. Through mentorship, leadership development programs such as Leadership 360 and Mentor Match, and community-driven initiatives like Poder Latina and community health engagement, the chapter will foster both professional growth and long-term community impact.
By combining technical training, leadership development, and access to opportunity, NHCA Central Valley will help build a pipeline of professionals ready to lead projects, grow businesses, and contribute to the region's continued development.
A Message From Mirna Garcia, NHCA Central Valley Founding President
The Central Valley is more than a region; it is home to 7.2 million people. It is where our families work, build, dream, and rise. From our fields to our freeways, from our small businesses to our construction sites, the Valley has always been powered by hardworking people whose contributions often go unseen but never go unfelt.
Today, as Fresno and the surrounding communities continue to grow, we stand at a defining moment. Our region needs more housing, more opportunity, more skilled workers, and more representation at every table where decisions are made. And that is exactly why NHCA Central Valley is here.
We are building a chapter rooted in the values that define our people: familia, resiliencia, orgullo, cultura, y la ética de trabajo que sostiene al Valle. Our mission is simple yet powerful: to elevate Hispanic contractors, strengthen our workforce, expand access to resources, and open doors that have been closed for far too long.
As your founding president, I bring with me the lived experience of a Valley daughter raised by immigrant parents who taught me that nothing is impossible when you work with corazón. As a mother, a community advocate, a realtor, and a leader who believes deeply in the potential of our people, I have seen firsthand the brilliance, skill, and determination that exists in our neighborhoods. I have also seen the barriers. NHCA Central Valley exists to break those barriers down.
And I am not doing this work alone. I am honored to stand alongside a mighty, committed, and community-driven Board of Directors, leaders who represent the strength, diversity, and lived experiences of the Central Valley. Together, we are building a chapter that reflects the people who have always powered this region.
Nuestro liderazgo es colectivo. Nuestra visión es compartida. Nuestro compromiso es con nuestra comunidad.
This year, we commit to:
- Building a strong pipeline of Latino contractors and tradespeople
- Expanding partnerships across education, industry, and government
- Increasing access to capital, training, and business opportunities
- Advocating for fair, equitable policies that uplift our workforce
- Celebrating the excellence and leadership within our community
We are not just constructing buildings, we are building futures, building stability, and building generational wealth for families across the Valley.
Estamos construyendo un legado.
Thank you for being part of this historic beginning. Together, we will shape a stronger, more inclusive, and more prosperous Central Valley.
Let's build the future of the Valley, together. Construyamos el futuro del Valle, unidos.
– Mirna Garcia, Founding President
